Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Dr. Doug Brauer, our new Dean of Engineering Technology and Industry!
Dr. Brauer's professional career has been split between higher education and business. In higher education, he has been responsible for a wide-range of academic and community outreach activities including career and technical education degree programs, professional and community development, adult education, dual credit, K-12 education, corrections education, development of the Richland Agribusiness Applied Technology Park, and applied research.
Dr. Brauer's recent higher education experience was as Vice President of Economic Development & Innovative Workforce Solutions, and Chief Outreach Officer, at Richland Community College. He has enjoyed roles as an Adjunct Professor, Dean, and Vice President at community college and university institutions. Dr. Brauer attained over $39M in grant value and directed outreach to over 3.6M people. Also, as the architect and principal investigator for multiple U.S. Department of Energy projects, he guided the construction and operation of the 15K sf National Sequestration Education Center on the campus.
In business, Dr. Brauer's focus has been on manufacturing and engineering operations. His recent business experience is as President and Managing Partner of MudTurtle Industries, LLC, which includes MudTurtle Furniture (custom heirloom furniture design and manufacture) and Design Assurance Sciences (consulting, research, and training); and as Executive Director of the Orpheum Children’s Science Museum. Dr. Brauer has globally directed technology transfer, manufacturing and engineering (Brazil, China, Costa-Rica, Czech Republic, Germany, India, Japan, North America, Scotland, Singapore, South Africa, and Taiwan). Also, he maintained the highest divisional annual net profit margin (35%) for a global corporation. He has frequently presented internationally, has numerous publications, and received the Quality Press Textbook Author Golden Quill Award for Total Manufacturing Assurance.
Dr. Brauer has been married 34 years and has four children (one boy and three girls), two grandchildren, and a third grandchild due in January 2019. His degrees include BS in Industrial Technology from Illinois State University, MS in Industrial Engineering from the University of Illinois, and Ph.D. in Education & Human Resource Studies from Colorado State University.
