Mango Library Search Set
New Mango Library Search Set to Improve Library Research Experience
Beginning in July, the Library and Learning Commons (LLC) will be coordinating with all of Florida’s public colleges and universities to implement a new state-wide shared library catalog and database discovery system known as “Mango.” Mango is a powerful search tool that instantly searches not only FSCJ’s collections of books, eBooks, and media, but also the full text of tens of millions of articles found in all the LLC’s journal databases. Additionally, Mango can simultaneously search the book collections of all the public colleges and universities in Florida and, most importantly, allow FSCJ users to easily request those materials from those institutions through a system known as “Uborrow.”
The mission of the Mango project across the state is to provide all students and faculty with the simplest, fastest, most user-friendly access to all types of research materials. The LLC is working with faculty to integrate Mango search tools into Blackboard, LibGuides and other Library websites to ensure easy accessibility. While most library material resource links from the old LINCCWEB/Primo system will be automatically updated, some links to specific resources may require updated hyperlinks. For example, links from course syllabi that lead directly to a book or article record may need to be updated. Therefore, the LLC asks that all faculty review their course syllabi and Blackboard shells and test all embedded library material hyperlinks before the beginning of the fall semester. This quality control step will ensure that students are able to access library materials when needed.
The LLC is providing support and information about the Mango implementation in July via the Faculty Resource page; via upcoming AFPD sessions for faculty training; and through ongoing personal one-on-one consultations with Librarians at the campus level. The LLC is pleased to collaboratively provide FSCJs students and faculty with one of the most robust, well-tested, user-friendly, and technologically advanced library discovery systems available in the world today!
