In a world where carbs are villains one week and superfoods the next, it’s no wonder our students (and let’s be honest, some of us too) are confused about nutrition. From TikTok trends to “doctor” influencers with ring lights, misinformation is everywhere -- and it's affecting the health, focus, and energy of our campus community. This lighthearted but serious look at common nutrition myths will explore how bad science and good marketing have shaped what people think they know about food. More importantly, it highlights how faculty and staff can help cut through the noise with real, relatable guidance. Because when we know better, we snack better -- and everyone wins.

This was an exploratory, quantative research guided by Herzberg's Two-Factor Motivation-Hygiene Theory to explore factors influencing satisfaction in an academic setting. This theory is based on two distinct factors: motivation factors and hygiene factors. Motivation factors can drive job satisfaction whereas Hygiene factors can lead to job dissatisfaction. The purpose of this research was to identify the connection between predictors of Associate of Science in Nursing faculty’s job satisfaction and Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) faculty’s intentions to stay in their current roles in the Florida College System (FCS). A 38-question survey was sent to 485 full-time ASN faculty at all 28 colleges in the the FCS.

Grief often shows itself in the big moments, yet its quieter ripples can shape how we engage, communicate and show up at work. In this session, participants are invited into a safe and supportive space to build grief literacy, focusing on secondary loss -- the additional losses that follow a major change or bereavement. Together, we will explore key terms and engage in reflection and dialogue (listening included) about these unseen losses can shape our experiences. This session will open and close with a brief mindfulness moment, and we will co-create a resource list -- please bring your favorite books, podcasts, websites, support groups, or social media communities to contribute. Note: This is an educational and reflective session, not a therapeutic or counseling space. Participants may engage at the level that feels comfortable and are encouraged to prioritize their own well-being throughout.

The only people without stress and pain are dead people. Stress and pain are part of our normal “wiring.” When either becomes excessive, understanding the mechanisms of the brain and hormonal processes can enable us to focus on controlling the negative physiological effects of both of these “normal” brain functions. This presentation will briefly cover the neurological and hormonal impacts of both pain and stress, and how some simple directed mental, emotional, and breathing techniques can reduce the potential “snowballing” that pain and stress can have and the negative consequences of letting them rage out of control. Techniques in use at the Cleveland and Mayo Clinics in guided imagery and directed diaphragmatic breathing control will be described and demonstrated, and participants will be given the opportunity to learn and utilize these techniques during the presentation.

In a time when learning has become largely screen-bound and isolated, this interactive workshop explores how to bring the body (including the senses) back into education. In this interactive workshop, Dance Professor Winter Maravillas and English Professor Sarah Stuart have combined their backgrounds in writing, meditation, and somatic movement. Drawing from Professor Stuart’s 60 Minutes of Tranquility program and Professor Maravillas' embodied pedagogy and somatic practice, participants will be guided through movement, reflection, and classroom design exercises that make even reading -- and writing -- intensive disciplines more kinesthetic and socially alive. Our approach emphasizes feeling safe, grounded, and present while awakening sensory awareness and expanding beyond the confines of screens and books. We hope to leave participants with concrete strategies for creating learning environments that are fully engaged, embodied, and human.
